TRAUMA THERAPY/EMDR
Trauma can change the way we experience ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us.
Sometimes the effects are obvious. Other times, they show up in ways that are harder to recognize—anxiety, difficulty trusting, emotional disconnection, feeling constantly on guard, or struggling to feel safe even when you know you are.
An attachment perspective allows us to consider not only what happened, but how those experiences may have shaped the ways you learned to protect yourself and connect with others. I have extensive experience treating victims of trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, and can help both individuals and couples identify the ways in which the past continue to affect the present.
I have advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and incorporate this training into my work with trauma when appropriate. EMDR is a preferred treatment approach for many clients as it does not require them to share the details of the abuse they endured. In the most simplistic terms, EMDR is a therapy modality that uses eye movements to help traumatic memories and negative core beliefs get unstuck from the brain.
