You Don’t Have to Navigate Life’s Challenges Alone

Relationships are at the heart of so much of what we experience throughout our lives.

When we feel connected, understood, and secure we can often move through life’s challenges with greater confidence and ease. But when we feel disconnected, hurt, anxious, or overwhelmed, it can be difficult to know what to do next.

Maybe you’re struggling in your relationship. Maybe experiences from your past continue to affect you in both ways you understand and in ways you don’t. Maybe anxiety has made it difficult to feel calm, connected, or fully present in your life.

Whatever brings you to therapy, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’m Crystal Whittaker, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Louisville, Kentucky specializing in relationship counseling, trauma, and anxiety. My work is grounded in an attachment-based perspective with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and EMDR.  I bring almost 20 years of clinical experience to my work.

Relationship Counseling

Our closest relationships can bring us some of our greatest joy—and some of our deepest pain.

You may feel stuck in the same arguments, disconnected from your partner, misunderstood, or uncertain about how to reconnect.

My advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) supports my attachment-based approach to couples and relationship counseling.

Together, we can explore the cycles you and your partner may be caught in, the emotions underneath those cycles, and the needs for connection that may be difficult to express right now.

The goal isn’t to decide who is right or wrong. It’s to better understand what is happening between you and create opportunities for greater safety, connection, and understanding.

I work with couples at every stage of their relationship—from dating and preparing for marriage to newlywed life and long-term, deeply committed partnerships. I also support couples who find themselves caught in painful or recurring patterns, navigating the aftermath of infidelity, or facing the difficult questions of separation or divorce. Wherever you are in your relationship, therapy can offer a space to slow down, understand the patterns between you, and find a path toward greater connection and clarity.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma can change the way we experience ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us.

Sometimes the effects are obvious. Other times, they show up in ways that are harder to recognize—anxiety, difficulty trusting, emotional disconnection, feeling constantly on guard, or struggling to feel safe even when you know you are.

An attachment perspective allows us to consider not only what happened but how those experiences may have shaped the ways you learned to protect yourself and connect with others.

I have advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and incorporate this training into my work with trauma when appropriate.

Therapy for Anxiety Relief

Anxiety can make it difficult to feel settled in your own life.

You may find yourself worrying, overthinking, anticipating problems, or feeling constantly on edge. You may also notice anxiety affecting your relationships or making it difficult to trust yourself and others.

Together, we can explore what your anxiety may be communicating, where these patterns come from, and how your experiences have shaped the ways you respond when you don’t feel safe or secure.  I can teach you a wide variety of ways to learn to cope with and manage your anxiety while allowing you to finally access a feeling of peace and calm in your life.

A Warm, Compassionate Place to Begin

Starting therapy can feel scary or overwhelming for a lot of people.

You may be wondering what to say, whether therapy will help, or whether your concerns are “serious enough” to reach out.

You don’t need to have all of the answers before you begin.

My hope is that therapy can be a place where you feel heard, respected, and understood—a place where you can begin to make sense of your experiences without judgment. I strive to provide an environment that is warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental.

We’ll start where you are. Let’s work together to help you live your happiest, most fulfilling life!
